This is less a single project than a recurring theme in much of my recent science fiction work. Many smaller projects of mine have revolved around people some hundreds of years from now exploring the derelict remains of earlier waves of human settlement throughout the solar system. These explorers may be historians, treasure-hunters, pirates, or forgotten princes in search of their lost inheritance. The settlements are often megastructures suspended in deep space and maintained by archaic algorithms, perhaps still verdant with their own feral ecosystems.
While many of these projects remain incomplete, these fragments have often proven a valuable starter from which more definitive work can be cultivated. It also speaks to the nature of creative ideation: much of our creative work is as much a meditation on a theme as it is a concrete message.
